Interesting acre link..... I'd heard (long ago) that it was older than that (Viking I think) as it was the area that a man could defend by throwing his axe (which does work out about right).
I wonder where I got my version from... and how many people I've since eroneously passed it on to ;) ?
I shall now have to decide whether to carry on with my disinformation or not...
Tim - did it invovle axe throwing by any chance? ;) And if you were awake enough to be reading blogs at 11.16pm, then you were awake enough to put in an appearance at Planarchy Towers where I was avidly awaiting making your acquaintance...

Posted by NiC on 20 August, 2005 at 12:06 PMBTW, I made your lime cheesecake the other day. Went down very well with the housemates (and with me too...yummy).

A fact that NiC, I and John The Boy worked out many years ago on the Isles of Scilly.

Posted by NiC on 21 August, 2005 at 8:06 PMMea culpa. Mea maxima culpa.
And grovelling.
No axe throwing, but there was a chance of stuffing an oar into someone's face (rowing boat, tides, African Queen etc,)
I would have dearly have loved to have been there, but not only was I knackered but others were too.
And catching up on blogs doesn't need _quite_ the same attention span as driving round the M25.
Another time, I hope, BW.
