Food = Ocado. The internet takes care of many other things, which means browsing the shops is pleasurable (please don't tell my wife I just said that).
I shop like a strike team in a hostage situation. In and out as quickly as possible.So,yeah,pain.The sole exceptions are record stores and music stores.
The thing I hate the most about shopping is all the other people staggering about in a consumer coma, often with herds of wild, uncontrolled children circling them as they go about their business.Oh yeah, and W.I.C cards at the register.
Somewhere in between, depending on type. Book shopping is always pleasure. Clothes shopping for something for which I have a particular need (jeans have fallen apart or don't fit/dress-needed-for-a-wedding, that sort of thing) is generally pain.
That is slightly mitigated by going as early as possible in the day and leaving before the hoardes descend, as far as possible.
I try and do as much of every sort of shopping bar grocery online as I can, though.
A pleasure when it's going round the local shops buying food and things I need, because it's friendly. I rarely buy much else so it is something of a treat when I do go shopping, for clothes or suchlike. Things that aren't interesting to buy, I usually get from the internet so I don't have to slog around the shops, which has pretty well eliminated the pain.
One of the old pain's used to be the lugging one had to do once one had purchased stuff. Now I don't bother buying at the store I just order online and wait for it to come to me. Only problem is I'm a sucker for book shops and have been known to come out laden like a donkey even when I know i can't go straight home - hence arms like a gorilla's. Verdict - pain has become a pleasure. (Shopping is a pain)

I think it's mainly a pleasure for me these days, food shopping I've got down to a pretty quick process which is the bit that gives me the pleasure, mainly once a week and most of the rest is on t'internet which I do rather enjoy....particularly the "screen shopping" (is that we call it when we don't actually buy anything?)
Necessity. Some shopping is always a pleasure - gadgets, some is always a pain - clothes with wimmin, but mostly it's just something that you have to do. Waitrose and the hand scanners take the pain out.
Depends entirely on how easy it is to find whatever you're looking for, and how painful the concept of purchasing said article is in itself - it's hard to get enthusiastic, for example, about the shelling-out of money for such lovely items as a hoover, or an iron...
Plants and books always a pleasure, clothes rapidly becoming a nightmare (whatever happened to clothes that lasted longer than a year and still loooked ok?) Food shopping a necessity, neither a pleasure or a pain. Oddny

pain for necessities (which BW does most of), but pleasure for those odds and ends in junk shops whilst on a lazy day.....not saying nothing, no sir about shopping for plants and garden centres :)

Always a pleasure. Up until I have to go to a supermarket (there isn't much choice round here unless you want to drive miles) in the middle of a Saturday and Sunday.
Whose idea was it that a supermarket trip is a family affair? Mum, Dad, Gran, Auntie, Uncle, Auntie's new boyfriend, assorted children. Hate it!
When I was a kid one of us got taken with one parent to the supermarket the other got to go with Dad to keep out of trouble.

Grocery shopping, clothes shopping = pain. "Can I help you?" ... um, no. Go away.
Books? Music? = pleasure, as long as I don't have to deal with a crowd.

Oh now let's see , shopping for yarn is just fantastic. I also love buying buttons, ribbons , paper , pencils etc. I am not at all keen on clothes shopping or food shopping. I do like food shopping in small , individual shops . Oh and shopping for books is so good calling it shopping seems wrong. Maybe it should have a special name like browsing then paying for a few items.
Shopping = Pain. Horror. Unless it's for books, (seems to be some consensus on this).
Also, internet shopping can be bearable (no crowds, designed to confuse lighting, or dementing music).
Generally avoidable though, which is why I walk around with holes in my shoes (can't really buy these over the internet).

Posted by Mark Garth on 4 July, 2008 at 9:00 AMDepends on a) type of shopping and b) time of day.
Food shopping, on a weekend? Total pain.
Book shopping, on a weekday evening? Pleasure.
Shopping on t'internet? Normally a pleasure. Or at least not-a-pain.
