well? how are you posting this? loving the saga of the internet connection (but not your pain) and need updates.

Look, I've got an intermittent connection of 0.11MB which *just* receives small emails and allows me to post and look at pages without high graphics content if I am very very very patient. I am the only person within a mile who has any BB signal at all, and that only because of a Team Manager's persistence on Friday night.

Another BT man came to another neighbour's identical BB fault this morning, and went away after half an hour saying he couldn't fix it (what a surprise).

My 2-away neighbour said to me, "BW, how did you get the BT man to spend five and a half hours on *your* fault yesterday?" "Easy," I said, "22 years of practice buttering up school secretaries to get the info I need to do my job, or to get to speak to headteachers who said they weren't taking calls!" She wanted me to tell her the secret. I couldn't.

BTW, they reckon the noise is being caused by a Sky + Box about a mile away, up nearer the exchange. But, the person works all day, and they don't work in the evenings. And they won't yet tell me exactly where it is ("Data Protection Act"). Although I'm working on it...

Connection now totally dead. My lovely BT man from yesterday just rung me from home - he's located the problem to a faulty Sky box 3/4 of a mile away but the owner refuses to switch it off or contact Sky and they now have to await the BT negotiators involvement, which could take weeks.

So, buying a PAYG dongle in the morning. If anyone has any advice re them, please speak before 8am when my access to smartphone goes to work. Can't access email currently either as webmail apparently down to mobile devices...

Can you not arrange a small power cut in that locality, say by sticking a fork through the power lines?
