Plus net is spoken of highly.

How about a broadband provider that lets you keep your original phone number?
Because the hassle of changing either or both the email address & phone non makes the whole exercise utterly pointless ....

Anyone use PlusNet - they're the 'bargain' arm of BT aren't they?

e-mail addresses won't be a problem Greg - I use my own domains, it's only a case of changing where they point to for being received. But - change of number? As my BB line is a second line that's not important either - but I didn't know that happened? There is a shortage of lines in this area, so it will be worth enquiring about before I jump, thanks.

Have you tried getting a speed estimate directly from the BT website?

http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/broadband/internet-speed-test

It is a good place to start when other providers use the excuse 'BT infrastructure'.

I have used it to argue with my provider (in writing) and they upped my speed within 24 hours and apologized for their 'technical issue', by giving me six months service for free.

Yes, thanks Mark, that gives '1MB to 3.5MB' (not very helpful to my cause!), I'd thought of that. Incidentally - if you do that with the EE site line speed checker, they then ring you an hour or so later giving you the hard sell....
