Sacked - or contract not renewed? Quite a difference....

Same difference NLW. It's all semantics these days. And even R4 were saying 'sacked' earlier.

It seems a very great shame to me that it is unlikely he will lose financially over the deal. And, as long as you don't have a neck injury where shaking your head might aggravate the same, https://www.vpointnews.com/Article/5705/here-is-why-oisin-tymon-didnt-report-jeremy-clarkson#.VRLWKBrBAvI.twitter just leaves me speechless.

I don't watch the programme & I certainly did not sign the petition, pretty much for the same reasons you've stated. My son loves the programme & his view is that JC hit someone & that's a sackable offence.

I don't have a TV
I own a "different" car that I inted to keep - because it is "special" ( An LWB Land-Rover )
BUT
On the occasions I have seen Clarkson he coame across as a loud-mouthed arrogant bully with a "power sneer" that seems to descend from National Service NCO's.
Nasty man - glad he's gone

Ham - having followed your link, I'm speechless too. That sort of thing is exactly the reason I don't engage with social media and open online forums.

Having seen first-hand how hard production teams work during outside broadcasts, last year when Mr BW and I were involved in Stargazing Live (and we ate with them during the shoot, drank with them in the bar, and stayed with them in the hotel), I just cannot believe how Clarkson could have behaved how he did. The production teams do at least three times the work of the presenters, never sit down, and are constantly attending to the needs of the front-of-camera people, who are paid probably 100 times more than they are.

Most people who spew on Twitter and open forums these days seem to base their views on how things affect them ("Bugger, no more Top Gear!") rather than seeing the whole picture, from all sides, and imagining what a situation would be like if they were involved in it.

The one who will suffer most from this is no doubt the injured party - it's hard to see how he will avoid always being professionally disadvantaged.

Greg - we love (proper!) Landies! And, were it up to me, we wouldn't have a TV either.

If you do hear of an alternative to the bbc news website I would be delighted to know. I absolutely hate the new one, especially the layout.

What's with the R-5 and R-4?

Posted by Sarah on 26 March, 2015 at 10:14 PM

Sarah - having spoken to several 'informed' people yesterday, I'm told that Aljazeera TV news is lots better than the BBC these days. I've just looked at the European website and it seems OK...

Posted by Bue Witch on 27 March, 2015 at 8:19 AM

And the R-5 R-4? I thought no-one would ever ask ;)

It's there for posterity. All will become clear soon :)

With you on the whole petrol head thing. Jeremy Clarkson was popular because he made 'interesting' TV - in an almost UKIP way!

When he's appeared on QI he's seemed slightly less opinionated and somewhat interesting.

Of course people flocked to sign the petition, there are a lot of petrol heads out there. And yes, there is one rule for the famous and another for ordinary mortals, it's called privilege! It used to apply just to the rich.

Clarkson = not news, but who is "Bue Witch"?

That's very unlike you Blue Witch!

Posted by verity74 on 28 March, 2015 at 7:04 AM

Yeah, it's the bit of me that is missing - with all that is currently going on around here - right now verity ;)

Odd though, given that my details are stored and I don't put them into the form every time.

Posted by Blue Witch on 28 March, 2015 at 8:04 AM

Was it really a million people anyway? I've not met anyone who claimed to have signed it. And just because you're a petrol-head doesn't necessarily mean you think it's OK to punch people does it?

As Ham said shame he probably won't lose financially from it all. Might even profit, he's no fool.
