A pretty good film I seem to recall and certainly an excellent quote....in case you do ever choose to watch it I won't put the obvious spoiler here. ;)
Whilst I sympathize with the sentiment to some extent, it is somewhat too sweeping. I would not be aware of some useful products and services in the absence of their being advertised.

I do agree that the principle of advertising is good. At its most basic level we would have no shop windows, no websites offering product. It would all be p to the individual to hunt out suppliers of what you want.
As ever it is a continuum. From hello g us locate what we need, to the persuasive subliminal advertising to make up part with money we don't have for product we don't need.
Bottom line for me is that whilst we still have people buying phones with loans they can't afford, just so that they can be seen with the latest gadget, then we have crossed the line.
