Debster - a couple of miles as the broom flies from where we have been staying every autumn (and sometimes at other times) for the last 11 years.

I had accusations of slowness levied at me on the odd occasion - completely unjustified, of course!
What got up my nose, and might be worth trying here, is for you to prompt the agents to enquire why the solicitor is not doing his job properly. He probably relies on the recommendation of the agent for his new business, so he might stir himself if he thinks he (she?) is incurring their disapproval.

Apparently estate agents in the north aren't at all interested in following up with anyone once they have a sale agreed.
Totally different to my expectation/experience of what happens down south! But, friends who move frequently tell us that most estate agents these days get a sale agreed and then move on and leave the poor buyers to their fate.
We *might* finally be getting somewhere today... *crosses fingers and toes*
