I've never understood the futon craze of sleeping nearly on the floor.
Your electricity issue reminds me of when I was doing some rewiring many decades ago with a "friend" whom I assumed knew better.
He said, "Just tap that wire there."
I did.
"Did you get a shock?"
"No."
"Don't touch the other one then."

Sorry to hear, but all our best to Mummy Mr BW. Our good friend Terry's father has Covid, we heard. He's 80. Fingers crossed.
I had a futon many years ago, Wonderful to sleep in but getting up was an effort when I was aged thirty. It would be extremely difficult now thirty years on!

Hope mummy MrBW is ok, sending good thoughts for her and safe driving vibes for you both.

When I moved to the new (well, current) house, I had a similar issue with not being able to get my bed frame up the stairs. I ended up buying a very low frame from Ikea, and I recently was having issues with getting off it comfortably.
I ended up getting some wood offcuts (4" cubes) and raising the bed onto those, and so far it's been remarkably successful. What a difference 4" makes! (Smut, smut, I know)
