Comments: Dilemmas

Still no snow here but lots of rain today. I've always slept with the window open and no heating in the bedroom but downstairs gets up to around 15 which as a hot person suits me. It hasn't got cold enough to close my coat when I got outdoors yet.

Good point about having a bedroom window open Debster, I'd forgotten that we do that year-round at Coven Sud! I'll have to remember to take one of the room thermometers down when we go so I can find out what the actual temperature in the bedroom is at this time of year.

I never used to do my coat up... now I have to put on done-up coat, ski-mitts and scarf on top of my fleece and under-layers before opening the door. It's like a ski holiday though, without having to do the skiing (which was never the best part for me). And we've not been skiing for at least 26 years, so happy memories.

Do they make plow attachments for tractors over there? A small tractor may be handy year-round anyway, out where you are.

I second Scoakat's tractor suggestion: I seem to recall seeing a snowplough attachment for a ride-on lawnmower a while back.
We aim to have our bedroom at 18°C at bedtime.

Realistically, what we actually need to do is find out which local farmer clears the minor road with his large tractor and snowplough and arrange/pay for him to do our track if/when it's really bad.

That would be a much better investment than a tractor and snow plough which we wouldn't need at any other time and have nowhere to store (and would cost tens of thousands of pounds, plus insurance, plus servicing, plus road tax, plus fuel storage requirements - no use having the kit without the fuel - plus, plus, plus).

This winter has been exceptional, the postie says, so it (probably) won't happen every year.

Our problem this year has been that, because of the pandemic, we haven't yet been able to meet many locals/farmers and have such discussions with them, and this year we have had need for many more deliveries than we will ever need once we have done the renovations/extensions.

Oh - and - we'll have plenty of 'slippery track, walk down or phone us to come down' notices laminated and at the ready to post on the bins at the road end of the track, before anyone in an inappropriate vehicle gets stuck.

I keep having bee-keeping fantasies. I still have all Al's equipment. But it makes no sort of sense at all.
