Comments: We live in strange times

My hedgehogs haven't appeared yet and something is eating my conservatory door. Best guess is a squirrel.

Why do we have supply chains in from Europe? I (obviously naively) thought British nursery growers grew their own plants.

Debster - conservatory door being eaten? Is it wood? Is it structurally sound? I'm wondering if it might be wasps if it is a bit soggy?

AQ - most large garden centres buy in the majority of their stock from Europe. Even small specialist nurseries often buy in small plants from Europe and pot on. I think that at an RHS garden our tour guide mentioned that 50% of plants bought in the UK originate from abroad (they were talking about diseases coming in). I've failed to find definite figures on a quick search though.
