Comments: While the mice are down south the cat will...

I miss having a proper old school hi fi system. As teenagers we aspired to the best but money meant slowly acquiring each piece of equipment with separate Marantz amp and tuner, a fantastic Thorens turntable and finally a pair of Wharfedale speakers. Having seen what prices these go for nowadays I regret ever selling them. I miss that warm, rich and full of depth sound that is very much missing from CD's. I can't recall the twin tape player I had as part of the system but I loved borrowing tapes as I could copy to a new tape. I had a collection of approximately 500 tapes but all sadly gone to charity shops many years ago. I still have some of my vinyl albums and a small cheap record deck with an awful sound from the tinny speakers!

I forgot to mention your lovely cat. I was told this week of a company that hired out cats as mousers but I can't believe that would work. The chap who mentioned it said he had a rat problem and I suggested he ask around for anyone who could bring a Jack Russell over to sort that out.

I've had success in the past mending dodgy CDs with toothpaste. See eg here.

I'll be interested to see if there is any appreciable difference in traffic after the 17th, judging by the amount out now!

delcatto - I shall bear you in mind if we decide to offload any of the four! I don't see how cats would stay where they were hired out thought. I agree that a JR would be better for rats.

Tim - thanks, I will try that. Nothing to lose after all...
