I remember in Norfolk hearing the lapwings and not knowing what they were, because I'd always thought they were called peewits because of the noise they made. And the loopy-radio noise sounded nothing like a peewit.

Please miss I know. It’s a deceit of lapwings. They are a county bird here and have three names, lapwing, peewit and green plover

I'd never seen them in the south of the country Lyle.
Correct Amber! What an odd collective noun.

Back when I were a lad in Oxfordshire, we used to see huge flocks of lapwings, almost starling-like quantities and murmurations.
They seem to have had a massive die-back for one reason or another, so Norfolk was probably the first time I'd seen them in any form of quantity in about 20+ years.
