What could possibly go wrong?

The new transformer and meter are 'free' but the move of the power line is at our cost. So digging the trench, new cabling and rerouting from the last pole to the house is at at our (high) cost and all just to meet regs that demand underground cables for the last 20m on our property, but not for the half mile after that to the main line.

... all of which is about six grand in total, including the internal rerouting of cabling from the old fuse box in The Blob (soon to be demolished) into the new fuse box (now in the airing cupboard in the main house) by the builder's electricians (done the week before last).

All the power lines are overhead for tens (if not hundreds) of miles around, yet they insist people needing to move their point of entry to house power lines put them underground. And pay them five grand for so doing. Crazy.
