You don't say what's happened about your water supply - is it back on ?

When you remove turf and dig the ground to grow vegetables the roots will be riddled with wireworm.

One truck is to grow potatoes in all the uncovered ground, dig them up (full of holes) and destroy/burn/whatever them.

From then on you should be ok.

Caroline - it was back on as orange gunk on Thursday afternoon. After running 20 cubic metres of so through the sheep troughs (so not paid for by us) by removing the ballcock, it is now clear-ish.

John - we have had the planned new large vegetable area covered with the carpets we took out of the house when we moved in 2 years ago. The grass is pretty dead, and we grew potatoes successfully on part of it (Mr BW dug the grass out with a mattock) last year, but it is useful to know that if we do get wireworm, we will be forewarned, and won't despair, thank you.
