Comments: Up ending

Will the new porch be wood construction or more stonework? Perhaps a combination?

All my best for the smoothest phase yet!

Good luck with the next lot of building work.

Hopefully the White Familiar will be caught soon but they are wily creatures.

Thanks both.

Our porches are not like your porches Scoakat. The new bit will be an integral part of the house, so made of stone (wood wouldn't last more than a couple of years in our winds and weather up here!) and will house the spun-round stairs, a new cloakroom and a new utility room, a new store room, and a double-height void. And lots of windows.

It's a big project and will render two-thirds of the house unusable and inaccessible in a couple of weeks time. It is not the sort of thing any sane person would do while in the middle of selling 2 houses 300 miles away, and moving out of one of them after 27 years. But, needs must, and if we were to wait until next year it would cost 50% more to build, with the increases in materials and labour costs, and the general shortage of trades, meaning they can charge whatever they like.

I do hope your northern cleaner BW hasn't discovered your blog.
