How frustrating! I remember last-minute dashes to the DIY shops to get a needed widget...

They will come in useful one day.

The problem is that there are a multitude of different types of pipe. From solvent to various types of push fit (taper and stub end). Even the stated dimensions of these are different depending on the manufacturer since some 40mm pipes refer to outside diameter and some 40mm are inside diameter. It makes attaching pipes a nightmare. If you are starting from scratch them all is OK because you buy it all from one place. But I have butt ended sink drains supplied with the sinks and solvent pipework from the wall installed from the builder. All I have to do is find a way of joining the 2. I have sorted 1 sink from my box of mix and match but need yet another different U bend for the other. Hmm...

Ooh, I understand, Mr BW. And I do dislike plumbing, myself.

He found a U-bend in his collection eventually. Shortly after perusing the Screwfix website.

Tap manufacturer no longer makes new hoses for a 13 year old water filter tap, and nor did their recommended outlet, but the very hidden depths of eBay provided.

Just some pipe inserts needed now and then we are fully plumbed and sinked in two more places, and we won't have to drink orange-tinged water any more. Hurrah!
