I am saddened by what has happened and continues to happen. I was shown kindness and friendship by Jews, Muslims and Christians in Israel and the West Bank. I have no answers but I make no secret of my support for Israel. I have travelled through Muslim countries and again met with kindness and friendship. It is always the ordinary people who pay the price.

The fact that the author doesn't put religion at the heart of the problem (in fact manages to focus elsewhere entirely) was so refreshing.
I cannot beging to unpick this one, but I do think it is simplistic to support one side - particularly the one who seems set on killing most of a million young people under 19 (half the population of Gaza) in the next few days. Given that the last election in Gaza was in 2006, none of them voted for Hamas, and most were not even born.

Yes, a good read and explanation. But long-known as a complicated situation with no apparent path to true peace. Not with human nature as it is, anyway.

Scoakat, is the author a known figure in journalism in the US?

That is a really interesting balanced view. You can't keep a teenager locked in their bedroom with food slid under the door and the view of a free world and be surprised when they break out angry as hell.
What they really need is a Nelson Mandella, to move forward with truth, reconciliation and not vengeance, and they need to listen to him/her.
Oh and yes I do appreciate that South Africa is currently in a mess, nothing is perfect but even we ultimately learnt that Northern Ireland would never be peaceful without a huge dose of looking forward not back.

Even Elon Musk appreciated it.
"Good piece", he said.
Which may ultimately be why you ended up reading it.

BW, no, I've not heard of him before. But I don't always pay attention to the author as much as who's the news outlet/source. This is different, being a social media post, but much is these days.
