At one point 3,140 properties were affected... that must have covered hundreds of square miles.

Here's hoping that Northern Powergrid have got their act together now and that it doesn't continue today. Ageing infrastruture (much of it the original overhead poles and cabling from when electricity went into these parts in the 1950s, 60s and 70s) plus high wind for days in a row are not happy bedfellows.
