We caught part of the closing ceremonies today while out for lunch this afternoon. Without sound, it looked like a lot of yawning (singing!) by a big silver globe until someone brought a container with the flame up.

When Debster remembers to call in next time she is traversing the country, I will get her to take some Milky Way pics for you Scoakat: she is the expert on that. My little camera is not good enough.

Even Mr BW fell asleep during the closing ceremony. The actual sport was great, the ceremonies each end were extremely disappointing. With more than a few 'borrowed ideas'.

The Perseids were less good last night as the sky was slightly cloudy up near Perseus. We did see some trails of the Aurora Borealis though, but only faint white vertical wisps and nothing like the spectacular near-countrywide event we missed a few months ago. Hopefully they may be better tonight?

I stayed up to watch the Perseids but some cloud and bloody light pollution scuppered that.

I might have to go up on the Lincolnshire Wolds to see them.

I watched some of the jumping, running and acting out sports and I really enjoyed some of it. I avoided both ceremonies...

Also any camera will do it. Bung it on a tripod and give it 30 seconds. Even a mobile will give you something. Use a timer if you don't have a remote trigger thingy.

Maybe I am the only person who hasn't seen anything of the Olympics this time round!
