Our car is 16 years old but worryingly the airbag light came on the other day. I hope it’s only a sensor playing up. Enjoy you new motor!

delcatto - It's exactly that sort of niggle that made us decide to cut our losses and invest in a new car. Known costs and reliability going forward, and no having to attempt to find a garage able to fit us in to fix things that go wrong.
Plus, there are now no new small diesel cars at all left, and only a few makes of new small petrols with manual gearboxes. In a year all cars will be automatics whether they be petrol, hybrid or electric. I hate automatics, so we needed to do something now.
While I like the Dr Hook version, I prefer the Marianne Faithfull one.

We always said that the only logic behind having 2 cars was to have 1 sensible one to tow and tour (which I get) and a fun one, not bought for practicality. But we did take BW's spinning wheel with us when test driving to ensure it would fit in for BW's crafty days out, and it does, just. We told the salesman that he was going to get the strangest criteria for purchase. So BW gets the fun one (unless if course I get to the keys first).

Oh and Delcatto we are way beyond an odd warning light. In the last 12 months or so I have replaced a broken spring, a failed heater unit sensor and an exhaust. More recently it has been puffing smoke and showing the engine warning light. Following good old Youtube to try to solve the smoke problem I have been standing out in the cold replacing the EGR sensor and valve, cleaning the MAF sensor and replacing other bits of the fuel supply. £200+ odd in parts later and it is no better. Even local garage owner took me on a scary test drive and couldn't work out what was wrong. It is also going to need new disks and pads soon, so it was time to call a halt and move it on. Made all the more urgent realising that it is now almost impossible to get a small car with a gear stick and in a year's time likely completely impossible.

I'm enjoying my new car. Had the old one for 13 years and it had done 145k. This one is 7 years old and only done 13k. It's in for a shock ...

Debster - was the previous owner very old? What is it?

It's had a bunch of owners. It's a duster. A black one.

Mr BW was very fond of them. Too big for me in our lanes though.

Whew! Sounds like getting a new car is definitely the right choice at the right time.
