That's not many miles for 11 years over here. While my wife and I don't put many on our cars, I think the average per year is at least double that here.
I had to look up RTFM - now you're sounding like my wife! :)

Scoakat - but, outside of towns, your distances are huge compared to ours, and IME most Americans have a different take on the environment to Europeans.
Plus, your petrol is much cheaper (ours is almost £6.50 a gallon, which is about $8 bearing in mind your gallons are smaller than ours). Google tells me your gas is just over $3 a gallon.

And not that long ago we were driving up and down the A1 grabbing fuel when we saw it under £2 a litre, c.£9 a gallon...

All very true. And, for the most part, significantly bigger vehicles. We used to get in adverts for cars the mpg for city and highway (21 mpg city/32 mpg highway, for example.) Was or is that a thing there?

Oh, and I'm not boasting but this morning I filled up at $2.79 a gallon. A very good price recently. Of course, the pricing level is mostly controlled by the government and regional supply.
