Funnily enough, I'm currently (comparatively) just down the road from you, BW - Newcastle, to be precise.
It's windy and rainy, but nowhere near as bad as pretty much everywhere else - indeed, this bit only has a warning for tonight 'til about 6am Sunday currently (and I'll be driving home after that)
At home though, it looks like it's been pissing down all day. Joy.
Whilst not underestimating the damage and flooding many have suffered, this morning BBC had a compilation of footage from storm damage including an outside market that had apparently been badly hit. They showed a Christmas tree in a pot which had been blown over and spilled a little earth on the pavement...That'll take some tidying up.
Rest assured the Royal Mail takeover has been well covered on media you don't see/watch/hear.
