Just as well I didn't pop in on the way back south!

Oh no, I’m with you there. I need at least a few days warning.

Debster - but you'd have dropped me a comment, email or text in advance, I'm sure, and I would have been delighted to see you.
delcatto - as long as I know even a liitle while in advance I can manage. It's just hard having people descend unexpectedly (and after so many years) as I need to ensure I have sustenance available and have banked enough energy to deal with conversation plus refreshments.
The thing I didn't put in the post that really annoyed me was that he is a highly unstable type 1 diabetic (for more than 50 years) and has very fussy food likes and dislikes - arriving completely unannounced, just before he needs a meal, of things that I don't even have in the house as we don't eat them, on December 26th, when we had carefully worked out what we were going to do that day was just rude.

*Wow* That's quite some level of entitlement and expectation!

Reminds me of the days of my childhood before telephones etc. We occasionally had people stop by because they happened to be passing and the same panic ensued. How comes they knew where you live anyway.
