Comments: The Cold

I still subscribe to the Nub news for the old area as well as home now.

Does the lecturer have a manager she can apply to?

That's what I suggested Debster, but it's a small department and they are all very cosy with each other - complain about one and the chances are little will change and the rest will retaliate too. It's a no-win situation as far as I can see.

The joys of academia...one of the reasons I decided to stop studying amongst several others although the main reason was the lack of reasoning!

I still have weather updates for London but to be honest, I rarely look at them.

I'm just fed up of the cold. It's not nice. It's not picturesque. It just makes me feel stiff and achy. How long till it gets warm(ish) again.

I was just wondering how you're surviving the latest storm. How bad has it been.

- Thanks for enquiring Caroline... the comments auto-closed before I saw this and could reply.

The power went off at 10.45am yesterday, and they haven't even got anyone to where the high voltage line is down yet. They hope to have 'assessed' the situation by late afternoon today. 73 households off, which is a huge area up here - tens of square miles.

The generator port was our best ever investment - but it doesn't allow us to run anything that is power hungry (eg vacuum cleaner, dishwasher, washing machine, greenhouse heater).

Thankfully no significant damage that we have noticed yet - but we have designed everything to be as robust as possible.
