I'm reliably informed that for English CSE (or whatever the modern equivalent of O Levels is), the examiners are not allowed to take any notice of spelling, punctuation or indeed any grammatical rules provided that the meaning is clear. I wonder if some of the teachers know the difference between a colon and a semicolon.
